OPERVENT FORMULA


The OPERVENT Formula is a simple formula designed to assess the energy production of a Wind Assistance Propulsion System (WAPS).

This formula is based on a few parameters and reflects the most influential physical effects:
  • Aerodynamics of the WAPS,
  • Wind shear effect,
  • Energy consumption of the WAPS for active systems,
  • Losses due to the side force generated by the WAPS on the hull,
  • Aerodynamic interaction between multiple devices,
  • Wind statistics over the IMO wind probability matrix.

This tool has been developed by CRAIN as part of the OPERVENT project.
